Improve Team Effectiveness

Profit Maximisation Teamwork Challenge

Teamwork Superworkshop

Objective

The event format and content is designed to bring people together and bond as a team by providing activities and programmes to ensure the delegates work for a common goal. Splitting the day in to two parts will work very well to achieve this by having a more serious programme in the morning followed by a much lighter hearted afternoon of activities.

Debrief and Assessment
There is a tangible result from this programme that shows how successful the teams have been in working collaboratively i.e the level of profit they have made. Joining forces at the end of the tasks to build the JEEP generally brings about great discussion, planning and a revived team spirit. We can engineer the success criteria based on your own objectives such as performance for 2005-2006 on turnover, value or customer service levels perhaps.

This programme is particularly effective in teaching delegates the importance of sharing information, communication and bringing them together to work for a common goal. Recognising each others separate skills and qualities is explored in depth with this format. The Profit-Max programme enables us to analyse the delegates whilst they work in their respective groups. Reliance on each others ideas and solutions is key to the success in reaching the ultimate goal of buying and building the JEEP but just as importantly we can facilitate and manage the group and thus ensure consensus and allow for those that might not normally be heard to have a voice. These are the skills we bring in running experiential programmes such as this.

Key Learning Points:

Leadership, Problem Solving, Teamwork, Communication, Sharing Information and Motivation

•The delegates are split into equal teams and they will each be given a certain amount of initial stake money. Each team will then be assigned their first task.

•Each team will be required to invest a set amount of their stake money in the task. The level of investment depends on how confident they are in their own abilities to receive a good return on their money by carrying out the task successfully.

•The teams will gain or lose money according to how efficiently they complete the task.

•After their first task has been completed the team leaders will group together and swap ideas and know-how of how they completed their task and how the next team could possibly improve on it.

•The teams then split off again and carry out the second task using their newly acquired knowledge that they have procured from their team mates in the other team. (The hope is that they will be able to achieve better results using their new knowledge and therefore increasing their cash fund and subsequently better levels of profit. This process continues until all teams have completed all tasks)

•The object is to make a profit and buy Jeep components along the way. They must not over spend on the Jeep parts and leave themselves short of investment capital. Once all of the required parts of the Jeep have been procured at the end of the programme the teams must collaborate and build the Jeep.....(no mean feat)

•The following tasks and activities may be included in this programme:

Minefield
Your team has to negotiate across a minefield using pure teamwork. This requires great skill and communication to complete

3D Web
You will need to plan carefully how you successfully complete this mission. Which team member are going to pass through the web and which ones are going to coordinate it ??

Captains Log
Using the six ropes attached to the log, slide it around the ‘maze' to an exit keeping the log as vertical as possible.
Nuclear Waste - A container of nuclear waste has been deposited in the woods. Your team is responsible for lifting the container of waste and depositing it in a safe housing. You can practice with your team but during the real event you will be blindfolded...you will rely completely on team communication to complete this task.

Nuclear Fuel Rods
Your team has been chosen to assist in a nuclear facility. Your challenge is to insert the fuel rods in their correct housings. The problem is that only one team member can make it into the chamber at a time and must communicate to the rest of the team how to progress with the challenge...the fuel rods are different lengths as are the housings....tricky one!

All Change
Your team is planted on an island and has to negotiate to another island location. Your whole team is standing on a pile of coloured planks that must be moved to the other location however, there are rules and regulations ....the planks must be erected on the other island in the same order but you are not permitted to touch the floor in between......this is a true mental challenge that requires some real thought.

Floodwaters
Your teams have been stranded on opposite sides of a lake deep in the woods (real! not imagined). Can you get the vital information across the floodwaters using only the equipment provided? Be careful there is a sting in the tail and contingency planning will be required!

Swing Bridge
Your team have to be transported above the woodland floor using amongst other things barrels, a plank and a tyre suspended from the trees. The solution to the task is in the title - Are your team up to the challenge?

Briefing Room
A cerebral challenge in the outdoors. There are several rooms and only one correct solution............ can you find a way through the roomed maze and opening doors within the constraints and given time. Open the wrong door and you could jeopardise the mission.

Tyrolean Bridge
The bridge you have to cross has been blown apart and needs to be re-constructed as a matter of urgency...however, the electronic conduit between each side needs to be completed in the exact mapped format to operate properly.

Willis Jeep Construction (FINALE EVENT with both teams)
You have been air lifted and dropped in the middle of a thick pine forest and must complete the rest of the mission by Jeep. The Jeep has been parachuted to the ground with you but needs constructing before being able to be driven...can your team complete the kit in time to move off?

Afternoon Activities:

Crashed Plane Rescue Mission
A plane has crash-landed on an Island. You are the recovery team and have answered a ‘mayday' call - reach the Island and retrieve the clues. You are required to construct a rescue device to affect rescue. This is a perfect activity to follow Profit Max to get people working as a team and use their newly acquired thinking and listening skills to achieve success. Running head to head against the opposing team will certainly apply the necessary pressure to individuals squeezing out the real achievers in the team.

One of following:

Quad Bike Crossword Competition
Quads biking as a cerebral task! Your team are required to gather information from around the course, using only quads as the mode of transport. The information maybe of a cryptic or numerical nature. Accurate feed back of info to central control is critical.

Blindfold Driving
This is fun event! Each person takes it in turn to be the driver and a blindfold is placed over their head. Other team members fill the car and are responsible for steering the driver using vocal (normally very loud and panicked) around a tricky caned course. Points are lost each time a cane goes over.

Bob Push
One of it's kind! The official dry training track for the Olympians. With top class coaching, teams push a 2 or 4-man ‘Bob' for the fastest time of the day. Requires controlled aggression, team power and co-ordinated speed. Although it may seem surprising, parallels are easily drawn with the work environment.

Plus one of following:

Powerturns
Wild machines, with two engines, two controls, six wheels and two drivers. Capable of 30mph and multiple 360's, the aim is to negotiate a slalom course in the quickest time. Can you control your partner? The best communicators will win in this event.

4 x 4 Off Road Adventures
It seems impossible, it is nerve racking but it is sensational fun. Test your talent on our course, negotiating muddy slopes, tabletops and axle twister. The challenge? To experience and drive a demanding 4 x 4 Off Road Course cleanly and safely. (A skill test that requires patience and nerve.) You're doing things with the vehicle that seem impossible, driving up muddy slopes, careering into axle-breaking ditches - it's nerve wracking, sensational fun and you'll be improving your driving skills.

Plus one of following:

Pro Spec Pistol & Rifle Shooting
Train to use these awesome weapons....Walther Pro-Spec Pistols ( Yes! the same make as James Bond's Gun)

Clay Pigeon Shooting
Accurate and efficient shooting will enable the successful procurement of a necessary part of your rocket

Crossbows
Learn how to use these ancient weapons of war and try to hit Gold to score the required points.

Archery - The Silver Arrow
An event which provides a fascinating insight into the techniques and equipment used in the middle ages.
