Overview:
For a truly unique experience, clamp on your crampons and go hiking up the stunning Mer du Glace glacier. The glacier is 5.6km long and 200m deep making it the second longest in the Alps. The glacier moves at a comparatively rapid 120m a year and if you're quiet you can even hear the ice shifting.
Before commencing your hike, you'll be supplied with virtually everything you need to become the next Edmund Hillary- hiking boots, crampons and an ice axe. Your instructor will give you a full safety briefing and teach you all-important ice climbing techniques. Once everyone is up to speed you'll head out onto the mountain.
To get onto the glacier you'll have to clamber down long steel ladders which can be pretty hairy if there's a strong wind, so if you're a little scared of heights we recommend you don't look down! Once on the ice your guide will lead you on a hike which will take in some of the most spectacular scenery in the Alps. The huge crevasses caused by the shifting ice are spectacular, so don't forget your camera and don't fall in!
