Overview:
Have you ever wanted to be the other side of the crime scene tape and enter the world of CSI? This is your chance to go behind the scenes and be a part of the action. This unique activity gives you and your team an insight into the fascinating world of crime and forensics with your very own Crime Scene Investigation.
Under the tutelage of CSI experts (former senior police officers, forensic scientists and crime scene examiners) your group will become detectives for the day, and attempt to track down the heinous truth.
The Case: Who Killed Lord Devonport?
Last night Lord Devonport was murdered! His staff hadn't seen him all day and the only information they can tell us is that Lord Devonport was scheduled to attend a meeting in the afternoon; however the identity of the person he was meeting is unknown. It is your job to use real-life forensic tools to piece together how the grisly crime was committed.
Format:
Part 1 - CSI Rookie Training
Most importantly you will need to learn the cutting-edge techniques and how to use the high-tech forensic gadgets. During the experience evidence will emerge where you can put your new detective/examination skills into practice which will lead to the murderer.
You'll get kitted out in full body suits, masks and gloves before your powers of deduction are tested with a forensic ice breaker where you have to identify a series of objects used in a real crime scene investigations.
Our CSI experts will then deliver a talk about the different approaches to building a successful team and how to get the most out all team members based on their extensive professional experience.
Time to really get down to CSI business with a fingerprinting masterclass. Fingerprints are completely unique and have been used to catch criminals in Britain for over 200 years, and your group will be taught how to take and analyse their own prints.
Part 2 - The Murder Scene
This is when the real excitement starts where your teams will get the chance to examine the murder scene and body.
At a glance, there has clearly been a commotion, possibly a fight. Fingerprints, blood spatters and teeth marks plus other suspicious objects are apparent at the scene, search for the clues and collect the evidence that may help identify the suspect(s) and warrant the arrest(s).
Your group will enjoy a combination of the following activities:
Dusting for Fingerprints
Fingerprints are impressions left by sweat. You'll be taught how to lift prints using power, brushes and specialist equipment. You can then match the prints against those of suspects.
Blood Spatter Pattern Analysis
Can you interpret the blood spatter patterns? Could this help the investigation? See how (fake) blood reacts on different surfaces. Where did the attack come from? What sort of weapon was used?
Forensic Dentistry
You can really get your teeth into this. Learn how forensic dentists can determine who has bitten what. Cast teeth marks and find out who in your team has been nibbling the chocolate.
Ballistics
This fascinating science will show how to discover whether or not bullets have come from the same weapon. Using specialist microscopes you will examine different bullets and cartridges.
Forensic Psychology:
What is this science, how can it help in criminal investigations? Why are some people predisposed to violent behaviour? How compliant are you? Why do some criminals commit offences when they actually don't want to commit them?
Part 3 - Mission Complete
Once you've (hopefully) cracked the case and identified the culprit, the event leaders will bring the day to a close with a concluding talk in which they will revisit the event's original objectives and present prizes to the supersleuths.
This activity is packed full of action and will keep the most diehard CSI fans on their toes, perfect for anyone looking for a fascinating fun filled day...and just remember to keep an open mind.
