In 1974 Humberside was assembled as a county and this lasted until 1996 when the former county was separated into different areas again. The areas that made up Humberside were then changed to:

• East Riding of Yorkshire
• Kingston upon Hull
• North East Lincolnshire
• North Lincolnshire

Although the county no longer exists, some people still use the name and refer to the area as ‘the former county'.
