Circus Skills Workshop

Circus Skills Workshop

Overview
Here is your chance to get a taste of what the circus is all about in one of the largest Circus training facilities in Europe. Take part in this fun action-packed half-day course where you will get the chance to have taster sessions in flying trapeze, static trapeze, juggling, acrobatics and acrobalance, in a supportive, carefully controlled and safe environment. To ensure maximum participation by everyone in all sessions the group would be split into groups with approximately 35 minutes per session. (The Show / Group Balance will be done at the end of the sessions by all groups).

Acrobatic-balancing
Learn to build human structures where you put your trust in each other's hands and physically support each other! As with all your activities you will be taught to do what you thought wasn't possible by highly trained circus skilled teachers.

Juggling
Juggling is usually seen as an individual skill, but within this workshop the emphasis will be on both group and solo juggling. Because of this you are actively encourage participants to inspire each other through sharing the skills you are learning by creating your own routines.

Flying Trapeze
This is the most exciting and challenging of all the circus skills. To step off the platform and into the unknown takes courage - someone has to be first! You are fully harnessed and have colleagues to catch you at the other end.

Static Trapeze
In Static Trapeze classes you will learn basic movements and rhythms that let you use your trapeze almost like an extension of yourself. As you advance you can string together these movements and techniques and create your personal routine.

Stilt walking
Learning how to use stilts is like re-discovering how to walk. There is a small degree of risk, but confidence can usually be built up very quickly and once basic walking is mastered, participants will move on to applying everyday movements. This is a skill in which the support of colleagues is required in a literal sense.

Tight-wire walking
To walk the tightrope requires great balance, rhythm and an ability to stay focused at all times. The tight wire starts at just half a metre off the ground. Participants will need to physically support each other initially as they attempt to walk the wire and until they have found their feet.

Body percussion
A great icebreaker and energiser for conferences that is easily taught to small or large teams from 10 - 200 people. The whole team works together to create a rhythm of music by using simply their own bodies, this is achieved by clapping, feet stamping, light body slaps, and various other methods. An unusual skill that is best remembered in shows such as Stomp. By the end of the session the whole team will work together as an orchestra of percussive sounds to create one rhythm in unison.

Plate Spinning
Learning plate spinning is a fun skill that requires technique, focus and rhythm. Participants are taught initially how to spin plastic plates before moving onto ceramic plates. Each team will learn initially as individuals before attempting to pass spinning plates from one person to the next. A rewarding and at times a nervy skill.

Unicyling
Great fun and looks cool. A good skill for people who want to do something dramatic, but want to stay in contact with the floor! It is fab for assisting with balance, coordination and control. It is an individual activity that take a long time to get good at, but once you get the bug there is no stopping you!

Hat Manipulation
A skill where you can get results quickly. It involves moving hats around the body - juggling them, rolling them, passing them, etc. Beginners can build basic routines and develop new tricks, while advanced hat manipulators can create complex passing acts. Great for people who like developing character routines - helps with timing, concentration, team working.

Diabolo
From the juggling family, a diabolo consists of two parts a set of sticks and an egg timer shaped plastic bit. It takes a while to be able to achieve results, but is fun trying! As an individual skill you can learn cool tricks, develop co ordination skills, timing and concentration.

Hula Hoop
A skill that a lot of youngsters seem to have a natural aptitude for! Starting with basic hula hooping (around the waist) students then try out using multiple hoops and using different bits of the bodies (arms, legs). Great for conditioning, concentration and is a cool trick to show off to your mates!

The Show / Group balance
The whole team steps into the spotlight. Witness colleagues do what you never expected and get up there yourself with your group and do it!
