Overview:
The Algarve is one of Europe's most popular destinations and it's not hard to work out why. The fantastic weather, great activities and pulsating nightlife make the Portuguese resort perfect for stag weekends. From your base in Albufeira you'll never be more than a drunken stumble away from the best beaches, bars and nightclubs- just remember to pack the suntan lotion!
Facts:
The official language is Portuguese; however English is widely spoken.
The population of Portugal is 10 ½ million.
It takes between 2-3 hours to fly to the Algarve.
A beer will set you back around 2.20 Euros (£1.50).
Nightlife:
Albufeira is the party capital of the Algarve and there are a mass of bars and nightclubs dotted throughout the Old and New Towns. There's no need to worry about trawling the streets all night only to end up in a bikers' bar on the wrong side of the tracks, as we've got all the best nightspots sussed. For those of you who like your nighttime entertainment a bit more risque, there are also a number of top class lap dancing and strip clubs.
Daytime Activities:
The Algarve has some magnificent beaches, but lounging in the sun all day after a heavy night out is a recipe for hangover hell- trust us! As well as the traditional Stag and Hen favourites, we offer a range of unique fun-packed activities that'll rid you of your headache in no time. Whether you want to snare Jaws with a day's shark fishing, learn to surf, or sail the high seas on a luxury yacht we've got events to suit you. The Algarve also boasts 24 great golf courses so budding Sergio Garcias can hit the links for a relaxing round.
Drinks:
Portugal's most famous drink is Port, a sweet fortified wine from the Douro Valley, and a favourite in dusty drinks cabinets throughout the land. Be careful if you get stuck into the stuff as it has an alcohol volume of between 18% and 20%, so don't order pints! Although not famed for its beer, Portugal's breweries produce a decent drop. The most popular brands are Tagus, Cristal, Sagres and Chillisauce's favourite Superbock. If you're a wine buff the local specials are Vinho Verde and Mateus Rose.
Food:
There's more to Portuguese cooking than Nandos. The food in local restaurants is good quality, based on fresh local produce and the fruits of the Atlantic Ocean. Sardines and salad is a very popular dish, but don't miss out on ordering some of the more interesting seafood dishes such as bass, bream, swordfish and lobsters. Pork and chicken are the most popular meat dishes, in particular chicken piri-piri. Most meals are accompanied by country bread, black olives and small tins of sardine pate.
Weather:
The Algarve boasts more sunshine hours than California. Even in the middle of winter, it is one of the sunniest spots in Europe so ditch the thermal underwear and pack an extra pair of shorts.
Currency:
In 2002 the Portuguese Escudo was replaced by the Euro and the rate is roughly 1.45. You can easily change money in hotels, banks, foreign exchange offices and ATMs, but the exchange rates may vary.
Transport:
For your prearranged activities we will provide transport. Taxis are plentiful and inexpensive.
