Quick Overview:
England’s largest national park is the perfect getaway for a stag party with an adrenaline edge. Considered England’s premiere location for hiking and climbing, The Lake District National Park is the home of the Lakeland Fells - England’s only true mountain range. In all the 885 square mile region has 214 fells, 16 lakes, 53 tarns and several bodies just called “waters.” Eleven small towns dot the parks landscape and serve, to varying degrees, as tourist centres.

Getting Around:
The towns around The Lake District are easy to walk. For day trips out into the country for hikes or other stag party adventures, options range from bringing your own private transportation to buses that will get you there and back. The Keswick Launch operates on the Derwentwater and makes stops at seven jetties around the lake.

Must See/Must Do
• Skiddaw - The path to this fell outside Keswick leaves from the back of town and ascends 3,000 feet to the 4th highest point in England.
• Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway - A narrow gauge steam railway connects the Ravenglass main line station on the coast to the Boot Station in the Eskdale Valley.
• Windermere Lake Cruises - Just what it sounds like. What better way to relax with the stag party mates?

History:
The area was first settled in the Stone Age. It was later occupied by the Romans and then the Norse around 900 A.D. It was then that the woods were cut to produce charcoal and copper before sheep were introduced. The stone walls that are a visible feature of the fell-sides were erected in the 18th century with the Agricultural Revolution. Tourism developed in the 19th century with the advent of the railroad to Windermere. Visitors come from throughout the country and internationally. The town of Kendal is home to the Kendal Mint Cake - a local delicacy that served as an energy bar on the 1953 expedition that scaled Mount Everest for the first time.

Nightlife:
Cumbria - the county were the Lakeside District is located - has about 25 breweries which is perfect for a stag party in Lake District. Even in this rural area it is not hard to enjoy true English ale in a traditional pub. Some of the pubs, especially where mountaineers frequent, tend to have a very lively scene. Don’t expect a thumping nightclub, but the after dark fun is evident here too. Try the Three Shires Inn in Little Langdale or the Salutation in Threlkeld and the New Dungeon Ghyll in Great Langdale.

Eat:
In the Lakeside District region it can be easier to find a pub than a restaurant - good thing most of them sell traditional pub grub for lunch and dinner. Some local favorites include roast lamb, Cumberland sausage and locally-caught Borrowdale Trout. Each town will also offer something in the line of restaurant fare if you are looking for that kind of meal on a stag party in Lake District. Keswick - one of the larger tourist centres - has Red Fort and Taste of Bengal in addition to the Loose Box and Golden Hills offering Indian, Italian and Chinese respectively.
