Cleveland is a relatively small county, covering just over 200 square miles, which was created in 1974 when it was sliced off the North Riding of Yorkshire. The administrative headquarters for the county is the town of Middlesbrough with other major towns being Stockton on Tees, Billingham and Hartlepool. The county of Cleveland is dominated by the river Tees (the area is also known as Teeside or the Tees Valley) and the North Sea. At Redcar, the county has Europe's largest steel and chemical complex due to the local potash and gas.
Unsurprisingly Cleveland's most commercial activities are steel working and chemical production. Despite its industrial base, the area is close to beautiful seaside resorts like Saltburn so you can combine a business trip with a walk through Cleveland's wild moorland. There are great shopping and leisure centres and museums. Follow the Captain Cook Country Tour or visit some of the Tees Valley's fine visitor attractions, including - the new Tees Barrage, Hartlepool's Historic Quay and Museum, Saltburn Smugglers Heritage Centre and the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum and Nature's World at the Botanic Centre.
Any town centre can be used as your base if you would like to take part in a treasure hunt, Spy Mission or take part in spy-themed team building activities.
If you would prefer an adrenaline-fuelled multiactivity day, head to the countryside where you can combine motorised activities (such as blindfold driving, 4x4 driving and quad bikes), field sports (such as clay shooting, archery and laser clays) and classic and original teambuilding challenges.
