Overview:
Fancy a classy stag do in the Cheltonian high society in Gloucestershire? Famous for its Gold Cup horse races, Cheltenham has also achieved a reputable standing as a spa town. You can also never go wrong with Cheltenham as your stag weekend destination if you are interested to see some best-preserved Regency architecture or seeking a thriving arts atmosphere. If you are thinking that Cheltenham is just a place for the proper and prim, you are sure to be proven wrong after you experience the vibrant and bustling nightlife in the town.

Getting Around:
Getting around Cheltenham basically comes in two favored options besides walking: Flag down a taxi on the road or hop onto a Stagecoach bus. The taxis are relatively reliable and you will be charged with what you see on the meter. However, you can also make a booking with cab companies which will cost you lesser. The buses are great as well but if you are planning to get back to your hotel, it is better to hail a taxi as buses do not operate regularly into the night. There is only a night bus that roams the streets and that is on route to Gloucester.

Must See / Do:
• Admire the array of summer flowers at the Imperial Gardens
• Go for a drink at The Rising Sun Hotel that comes with a spectacular view of Cheltenham
• Visit the Pittville Pump Room which is a major tourist attraction with its spa waters when weddings or other events are not held
• Stroll down the Promenade and the Montpellier Walk
• Book a ticket to the Gold Cup horse races (Book in advance!)

History and Culture:
After King George III visited Cheltenham in 1788, it rose to prominence with its acclaimed healing spa waters and the quiet town soon became populated with the wealthy and respectable shorter after. Although you can’t find the authentic spa waters at Cheltenham today, you can still catch a glimpse of its hey-day at the Pittville Pump Room. In the early nineteen century, horse racing began in Cheltenham and soon started drawing in numerous tourists around the country. Due to the popularity of its Gold Cup horse races, spectators may even need to book way advance (1 year!) in order to secure a spot in the racecourse. The racecourse’s a great spot to start your stag weekend in Cheltenham.

Nightlife:
Although Cheltenham does not seem like an exciting prospect for a wild stag night, it offers an alternative to stag buddies who seek a high-end trendy theme for their stag party. Cheltenham is never seen to be seedy and is a great place for guys to indulge in good wines for a refined stag weekend. If you are looking for a large nightclub to stage your stag do in Cheltenham, you can try Moda which is popular with youthful revelers.

Eating and Drinking:
Eating in Cheltenham fits all sizes of wallets as there is a range of cuisine varying from the budget eateries to the ultimate swanky restaurants. To fuel your stag party crew before the stag night, you can feast at the French restaurant Le Champignon Sauvage like a king or try the Pittville Gates for their marmaris if you are on a budget.

Sport:
If horse racing is your thing then Cheltenham is the horse racing mecca in this country, who knows, you may even win a hefty sum off the bookies at the racecourse. Other sports concentrated in Cheltenham are football, rugby and croquet. A worthy mention is that Cheltenham houses one of the biggest croquet clubs in Britain and it is also home to the Croquet Association.
