OVERVIEW:
Traditionally thought of as your Grandad’s holiday stomping grounds, Blackpool has come a long way in the last few years, with a bustling social scene, built upon the foundations laid by the memories of melted ice creams and 50p donkey rides back in the seventies. There’s a multitude of different and interesting activities for a stag party visiting Blackpool - the most iconic holiday destination in the UK – catch a ride on the Pepsi Max Big One at Blackpool pleasure beach – the most ride-intensive theme park in the world! You and the lads could chill out at Blackpool zoo, check out the views from the top of the famous Blackpool tower or sample the delights of the many restaurants set along the seafront! Start your Blackpool stag party with sun, sea, and sandy ice creams!
GETTING AROUND:
Blackpool International airport runs regular charter UK and international flights, is easily accessible from the M55 and boasts a comprehensive bus and tram network. Four-wheeling is not really recommended due to the tight nature of the city centre’s roads, but the fantastic public transport more than makes up for this.
MUST SEE/DO:
• Check out the Golden Mile
• Take in the awesome spectacle of Blackpool’s revamped, modernised illuminations, stretching for 5 miles of seafront
• Visit the huge 32-acre Blackpool zoo.
• Visit Blackpool Pleasure beach and pier. You can almost hear Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown.
• Visit the Castle Casino on Queen’s Promenade
HISTORY:
Blackpool was historically the fashionable holiday destination for the well-to-do, but as time progressed, it became much more accessible to the general population. Now, when you think of Blackpool, it conjures up images of your grandparents lounging in deckchairs on a cloudy summer day, negotiating a rapidly melting ice cream, Jethro Tull, Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown, and the iconic Blackpool Tower. Today, Blackpool features everything you’d expect from a major British seaside resort, and more! All the ingredients are there for a fantastic Blackpool stag weekend!
NIGHTLIFE:
Blackpool’s nightlife has far progressed from late night penny arcades and old-man boozers on the seafront – Blackpool now features two casinos, and over 30 discos and nightclubs. Club Sanuk is one of the jewels in the crown of the seaside resort. As one of Blackpool’s best-rated clubs, it’s a firm favourite for a stag or hen party, with 7 bars, 5 rooms, and 4 different styles of music on a regular basis. If super clubs are more your thing, Syndicate offers the big club experience, with a multitude of different music styles and a heaving capacity of 5000. Be aware though, for all you budding stags, most of Blackpool’s clubs have a strictly enforced dress code, so leave the fancy dress at home, and get on your dancing shoes!
In terms of a more relaxed drinking experience, there’s hundreds of contemporary pubs – gastropubs, irish pubs, wine bars, old-man boozers – if you’ve drunk in one, they’ve got one!
FOOD/RESTAURANTS:
Blackpool offers a fine repertoire of eateries, the cream of the crop focused mainly around the hot-spot areas on the seafront – one such example is Toast, located on the south shore – by day, they serve an all-day breakfast, burgers and other such hangover-fare. After 5pm however, the restaurant morphs into a brilliant evening eatery, serving some of Blackpool’s finest locally-sourced produce.
If you and the rest of your buddies want to fuel your Blackpool stag weekend with more traditional food, then you can’t beat Harry Ramsden’s fish and chip restaurant, situated in the heart of the promenade, serving some of the finest fish and chips in the land!
