General:
Located not far from London,
Reading is a location deserving of a second look as a location for your
stag weekend. There is a strong student community, complimented by young professionals. Known for the yearly music festival,
Reading has something to offer everyone, particularly groups such as
stag weekends. There is a wide variety of activities, both indoor as well as ones designed to satisfy those with a love for the outdoors. Activities such as paintballing, and my personal favorite beer keg racing, are enjoyed by many stag dos. These, combined with the active nightlife. provides something for everybody.
Culture and History of the Area:
If you are looking for natural English beauty, it is in
Reading and the surrounding area. The countryside is landscaped with green rolling hills nestled in the Thames Valley. Once a major medieval trade center, it is known for it’s natural beauty. The ancient merchant street markets may have made way for the new shops and boutiques, but the pride in the town so influential in medieval times will be very obvious to your
stag party.
Reading Transportation:
Public transportation in Reading consists of trains and busses. If your stag do is like most, you will want to explore city centre by foot, stopping by one of the many local pubs to rest your feet. While there, be sure to refresh yourself with one of the locally brewed beers. If your guys want to venture into the outer areas, day passes are available for individuals or groups. Taxi service is always possible, as well as car services that can be hired with advance notice. All in all, your stag party will have no problems reaching anywhere in Reading or the surrounding small towns.
Reading at Nighttime:
It won’t take long for your stag party to realize nighttime in Reading rocks. There are many clubs and bars scattered across town, offering just about ever kind of venue. Be it DJ or live music, your stag do will find several places that fit your individual taste. The area around city centre acts as a kickoff place for the local students. The bars and pubs are where students get “warmed up” before hitting their clubs and bars throughout the city.
Enjoying the Local Food:
Did you and your stag do party a little too hearty last night? Would you rather stay closer to city centre and still be able to enjoy exceptional food? In Reading, that isn’t a problem. In fact, you can venture only a short distance from downtown and give your stag party selection after selection of great things to eat. “Foxbury’s” is a local favorite along with “Sweeny & Todd’s”. Both places pride themselves with offering fantastic food and service at a very good price. If you are hangover free, still have a lot of energy, and don’t mind spending some money. take a short trip to “Shinfield” and enjoy some French cuisine as well as other fine dining. Please keep in mind the fantastic “pub grub” available at the local pubs. Sometimes your stag do can find the best value at small out of the way places.
Sports:
Your Reading stag party will appreciate the opportunity to enjoy a great game of Rugby or Football. “Madejski Stadium” features Premier League games, giving your guys an opportunity to see British sports at its best.
