Overview:
The only “island city” in the UK, Portsmouth is located on the south coast of England. With its mild climate, a four mile long seafront, beautiful pebble beaches, its rich naval history and a good vibe it is a great place for your stag weekend. A Portsmouth stag do will offer you and your friends plenty of interesting things to do, plenty of amazing places to see, and an opportunity to have an awesome time with plenty of great memories.

Transport:
The best way to travel to Portsmouth for your stag weekend is either by car or train. There are direct rail services from London, Cardiff and Brighton on a regular basis. Once in the city the best way to get around is on foot in order to experience the sea air and the true spirit of the city. Buses are the next best option and an all day travel pass can be bought for £3.60.

Must See/Must Do:
A stag weekend in Portsmouth is full of possibilities when it comes to things to see and do. A selection includes:

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard –Portsmouth has been an important naval base for a very long time and there are a number of beautiful old ships to see. You can also visit the Royal Naval Museum and Action Stations.
• Southsea Castle – built in the 16th century by Henry VIII, this is a must see for those who enjoy history.
• Charles Dickens Birthplace Museum – when in Portsmouth, this museum is an absolute must see! It offers you an insight to the house in which the famous writer was born in 1812.
• Fratton Park – Watch Portsmouth FC play a Premiership home game – a great stag party day out!

History and Culture:
Being an important naval base throughout history, Portsmouth is best known for its historic dockyard, where you can see a lot of different interesting things, including Lord Nelson’s flagship the HMS Victory. Besides the historic dockyard, other sights include the D-day Museum, the Charles Dickens Birthplace Museum, the Royal Marines Museum, St Thomas’ and St John’s cathedrals and Spitbank Fort. The city is also home to two theatres and a number of live music venues.

Nightlife:
There are a lot of places in Portsmouth where you can go out and have a good time if you decide on a Portsmouth stag weekend. Definite parts of the city to visit for nightlife include Gunwharf Quays, Albert Road, Guildhall Walk and Palmerston Road. There are a number of drinking venues in Portsmouth including pubs, wine bars, night clubs and strip clubs. When it comes to clubs, you should definitely check out Route 66, and for a stag night at a great strip club- Elegance located on Granada Road is very popular. The water front is also a fantastic place if you fancy something a little more relaxing.

Drinking and Eating:
Portsmouth is home to hundreds of restaurants and eateries catering to even your fussiest stag party members taste. We recommend you definitely try one of the curry houses on Albert Road in the city for a cheap but high quality meal. Aside from curry houses, Portsmouth is also host to a number of nice restaurants, traditional British pubs and the usual fast food burger chains. As far as drinking goes a great place to check out is The Old Customs House. Located in a historic building there are some fantastic real ales to choose from inside!
