Getting Around:
Getting to Munich is a breeze. Munich International is Germany’s second largest airport and most European cities connect to the city by rail. The best way to travel around Munich on a stag party is the Tram, bus, metro railway and subway systems. You can get individual, group, day and week tickets at reasonable rates. Munich is easily accessible by highway but it gets congested at rush times and during ski season. Munich has over 200km of bike trails making cycling a great option for seeing the city. Rentals are available at the main train station and at many other locations around the city.
Must See/Must Do:
• Oktoberfest - What better way to go out with the stag party mates than with the world’s greatest, beer swilling, good time. Held every October since 1812, Oktoberfest is a city tradition and draws revelers from around the world. Who can forget the buxom beer maidens carrying 10 steins at a time to raucous tables of partiers belting out Bavarian drinking songs?
• Board sports - In the spring, join locals for a surfing session the river at the edge of the Englischer Garten. In winter, purchase a “Bayern Ticket” for Bavarian public transportation and go skiing at Garmisch-Partenkirchen for the day.
• Deutsches Museum - This massive technical museum has hands-on, interactive exhibits of natural science, engineering, construction, as well as, an impressive collection of full-scale aerospace vehicles.
• Beer gardens - If your stag party can’t make Oktoberfest, you can have an alternate version at any of Munich's many beer gardens. The Hofbräuhaus is probably the most famous beer hall. The city has countless beer gardens scattered throughout.
History:
Munich was first mentioned in a document in 1158, which is generally considered to be the city’s founding date. In 1175 Munich received city status and a fortification was built. Munich became the capital of Bavaria when it was reunited in 1506. In 1923, Munich was the site of Hitler’s failed attempt - known as the Beer Hall Putsch - to overthrow the Weimar Republic and seize power. The city sustained heavy allied bombing during World War II but has mostly been rebuilt at this point. Munich was the site of the massacre of Israeli athletes by Palestinian terrorists at the 1972 Olympics. Today, Munich is consistently ranked in the top 10 cities worldwide when it comes to quality of life.
Nightlife:
There are over 6,000 licensed drinking establishments at the waiting for a stag party in Munich. This city was cater-made to service stag parties. Germany - and Bavaria in particular - is legendary for its drinking culture and general friendliness of the city and its inhabitants. Schwabing is the main district for artists and students and as such has a vigorous after-dark scene. Try P1 - Munich’s highest profile debutante discotheque. Or for a more subdued, but still touristy, experience, try Hofbrauhaus - one of Munich’s oldest breweries.
Eating:
With its global array of residents, Munich has an exciting culinary community and just about any type of food a stag party could want is available. For local specialties try the Bavarian baked sausage loaf with potato salad and “white sausages” that usually only eaten before noon and are served with fresh-baked pretzels and sweet mustard.
