Overview:
Nature buffs will find a
hen weekend in
The Lake District a delightful one due to the countless opportunities available for enjoying the vast natural scenery of the outdoors. Lakeland comprises of over sixty lakes but interestingly, only one of these has “lake” as part of its name. The fells also add an alluring quality to the outdoor scene of
The Lake District and you can be sure of having a memorable hen party in Lakeland.
Getting Around:
The best way to enjoy your
hen weekend in
The Lake District is actually taking a walk. This is due to several reasons. While it’s possible to drive your car through the area since it’s actually a collection of small towns, getting ample parking space is quite difficult and when available, you will have to pay a premium for it. Furthermore, driving in your own car will cause a lot of delay due to the steep roads and traffic congestion during the tourist season.
Buses are available to convey your hen party crew to desired destinations but the service is limited and there is a need to get acquainted with the operating time table before leaving for anywhere in order not to get stranded. While it’s possible to cycle through town, this mode of transportation is recommended only for experienced cyclists as a result of the mountainous topography of The Lakes. You can also decide to employ the services of tour organisers to take your crew round the city but this option is not as adventurous and spontaneous as exploring on your own.
Must See/Must Do:
• Go on a cruise on one or more of the numerous lakes that make up the district. Some of the popular ones include: Windermere Lake, Bassenthwaite Lake, Coniston water, Elder water and Haweswater Reservoir.
• Go on a hike! There are several places to visit during a hen party in The Lake District. You can attempt to climb Scafell Pike, the highest peak in the whole of England for a test of wit and endurance or walk down Buttermere lake.
• Tour Lakeland’s National Park to observe nature in its undisturbed state.
History and Culture:
The Lake District serves as England’s lone mountainous region, a result of the glaciation that took place over ten thousand years ago. The towns that make up the district still have a connection to the rural English way of life but of course with a contemporary flavour. The combined history, culture and geography of The Lake District make it an excellent location for hen weekends.
Shopping:
While you won’t find top fashion like in the big cities in The Lake District, there are still enough things to feed your eyes with and even purchase. Some of these items include art and craft pieces made by the locale and a lot of other souvenirs. If you can’t do without haute couture however, then you should reconsider.
Nightlife:
As is common with rural English towns, The Lake District has several pubs scattered all over the locale and should you be in the mood, you can take your crew on an ale drinking binge! For something fancier however, there are a number of places to check out including Keswick’s Café 26.
Eating & Drinking:
The Lake District is littered with several outlets where you can snack on coffee, cocoa, tea Cumberland sausage (a specialty) and pastries. 1657 Chocolate House offers choc addicts enough delights to make a
hen weekend memorable while specially made country sandwiches can be gotten at Pedlar’s whole food café. A number of restaurants also complete the ensemble and provide sumptuous dinners for your crew.
