Overview:
One of the major advantages of selecting Norwich when considering locations for hen weekends is that it provides a tremendous opportunity for experiencing the best in terms of culture, wining and dining, shopping and a host of other delights—and it is devoid of the oftentimes inconvenient buzz and fuss associated with large cities.
Getting Around:
As is common with a lot of English towns, navigating through Norwich is easily done on foot—a plus for your hen night. You can derive maximum fun by hiking through town with the girls without necessarily holding up traffic! There’s also a preponderance of bike lanes that can be utilized in addition to obtaining bus passes to the major areas of the town. Lastly, black cabs can also be easily hired (quite affordable) for a more private means of transportation.
Must See/Must Do:
• Cathedral Retail Park and Elm Hill—perfect spots for hen do shopping.
• Norwich Castle and Art Gallery (houses an enviable collection of art pieces, chief of which are the largest British teapot collections you’ll find anywhere!)
• Infuse your Norwich Hen Party with cultural sophistication by visiting the Sainsbury Visual Arts Centre for the works of Edgar Degas, Antonio Lopez, Fernando Botero, Pablo Picasso, and other greats.
• Pay homage to Lady Julian (the first English language woman writer) with a visit to St. Julian’s Church.
• Watch different performances (including puppet shows!) at the famous Norwich theatre.
• Take a trip to the Cow Tower on the banks of River Wensum.
History and Culture:
During the middle ages a thriving wool industry was one of the factors that made the town a significant one. Today, visitors to the town can still experience the rich cultural and historical heritage of the town due largely in part to the efforts of the University of East Anglia Foundation which has preserved the artistic leanings of the town. A Norwich Hen Weekend would be incomplete without a tour of the numerous ancient and statuesque buildings (a large number of which are churches) still standing tall in the county. By the way, Jane Manning, the popular opera soprano was born and raised here too, another testimony to the town’s artsy spirit.
Shopping:
Shopaholics can still have a swell time by browsing through the numerous outlets available for slaking your shopping thirst and those of your other friends while still enjoying a thrilling hen party. Some of the top destinations for shopping within the town include Norwich mall, Chapelfield shopping mall, Anglia square shopping center, Elm hill, and a host of other shops that sell perfumes, clothes, jewelry, gifts and any other thing you require. In fact, the City center was declared the best in the United Kingdom according to a survey carried out by Goldfish Credit Card Company.
Nightlife:
Of course, a Norwich Hen Do would be incomplete without an exciting night out spent with the girls. The town provides several opportunities for hard partying including: Adam and Eve’s pub house, a 13th century styled building, Mercy club which also features large projection screens and top deejays, and Liquid. These and more along the Prince of Wales road guarantee a spectacular night out.
Eating and Drinking:
There’s a place for everyone both in terms of taste and budget when it comes to food and drinks. Adlard's provides simple but exquisite British delights; for vegetarians and organic food lovers, Pulse Café and Greenhouse is the place to visit; Caley’s Cocoa Café is for anyone (of course, this is for everyone!) interested in tasting the best chocolate delights and for a cake-and-tea recipe, the Briton Arms Coffee House is the destination.
