Overview:
A British tourism staple since Victorian times, Bude has all the charm of a traditional seaside town but with modern services and facilities that are expected today. Located on Cornwall’s coast, Bude has fine sandy beaches – many monitored by lifeguards – and some of the best surfing in England. On a hen weekend in Bath there are many activities to explore along with restaurants and beach-centred attractions.
Getting Around:
Bringing a private vehicle is pretty much required in Bude if averse to walking. The town is small and most hen parties should have no problem going to activities on foot.
Must See/Must Do:
• Summerleaze Beach – Take a swim, bask on the beach in the sun or be adventurous and take a surfing lesson. There is also a seawater pool at Summerleaze well worth checking out.
• Gawk at the lifeguards – A lifeguarding demonstration is held every Tuesday at Crooklets Beach where the country’s first Surf Life Saving Club was founded. Sure to be a hen party favorite!
• Northcott Mouth rock pools – a great place for a hen party to bond while walking the beach and exploring the rock pools for crabs and other marine life.
• Golf – The Bude and North Cornwall Golf Club in the middle of Bude is the place to be to mix it up on the links. A friendly hen do competition to fill an afternoon?
• The Strangles – For the adventurous and fearless hen party, consider a trip to Rusey and the Strangles beaches that are accessible by cliff paths.
• South West Coastal Path – Enjoy an afternoon on this walking path located just minutes from town on foot. Warning: high likelihood of encountering dramatic scenery here.
History and Culture:
Bude has been a significant locality for generations due to its harbor. But it has also been a major supplier of lime carbonate used for fertilizer. The beaches’ popularity during the Victorian era spurred construction of a rail line to the town in 1898. However, it was shut down in the 1960s Nowadays Bude exists on tourism and is widely known as a premiere U.K. surfing destination.
Shopping:
There isn’t much of it in Bude, but other activities abound to entertain any hen party. There are some beach-area shops where souvenirs may be purchased.
Nightlife:
Due to its size, nightlife is somewhat limited in Bude. There aren’t the pulsating clubs of other cities, but Bude has a quaint nightlife of its own. The Life’s a Beach café at Summerleaze is a great watering hole during a hen party day at the beach and at night it’s a vibrant bistro. The Carriers Inn is a nice traditional pub to suit all tastes. The Old Wainhouse Inn is located a few miles outside of town, so have a sober driver if heading out for a visit.
Eating & Drinking:
Beach-side dining for a hen party is superior at the Life’s a Beach café. The Falcon Inn is known for its pub grub, but for more variety a trip out of town will be required. Elements is popular but is located between Bude and Widemouth Bay. The Countryman is located about 15 miles through the rural countryside.
