Overview:
Of course the U.K.’s most popular beach resort would be a perfect
hen weekend setting.
Blackpool has drawn beach-goers and other tourists since the 1800s. Whether basking in the sun or taking in the shopping district or a night on the town, a Hen Party in Blackpool is a sure success.
Getting Around:
While
Blackpool has a standard bus system that will serve most purposes, try the double-decker electric trams that ply the beachfront from Starr Gate to Fleetwood. Train service has stops at a number of city attractions including
Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
Must See/Must Do:
• Blackpool Tower – Inspired by the Eiffel Tower, the Blackpool Tower rises more than 500 feet over the ground. Built in 1894, the tower is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers.
• Blackpool Pleasure Beach – What could be more pleasurable at a
hen party than an afternoon – or two – basking in the sun on the beachfront. If boredom sets in, trade the sand in for a roller coaster or other midway attractions.
• Funny Girls – Blackpool is known as a gay-friendly locale and a vibrant club and entertainment scene has sprung up to serve the droves of visitors that frequent the town. The award-winning Funny Girls drag cabaret show is pure fun and sure to draw rave reviews from any
hen party group.
• Blackpool illuminations – The annual Lights Festival has been held every autumn since 1879 when most resort towns are winding down for the season. The 'Greatest Free Light Show on Earth' includes six miles of displays that include over a million bulbs.
• Blackpool’s piers – Go on, take a hen do stroll in the breeze on one of Blackpool’s three piers. Taste the salt in the air as you and your gal pals take in the seaside scenery.
History and Culture:
Since the early 20th Century, Blackpool has been a major tourist draw. Many of Blackpool’s older attractions – its electric trams, the Blackpool Tower, the piers – are all still intact after being spared the destruction many U.K. towns received during World War II bombing. From the promenade to the shopping and entertainment districts, Blackpool has long been known for its carnival-like party atmosphere.
Shopping:
Blackpool is home to the requisite tacky seaside souvenirs including “kiss-me-quick” hats and the traditional Blackpool Rock, but there is also plenty of high-street shopping available as well. Ocean Boulevard is a good place to start with its cafes and eateries side by side with a large selection of shops.
Nightlife:
Any Hen Night in Blackpool should include some serious club time. Once the sun sets, there is something for everyone in Blackpool’s nightlife offerings. Everything from small pubs to super clubs can be found in Blackpool. For upscale clubbing, try the Syndicate superclub or Rumours and Hush. The party is always ready and it’s easy to dance the night away in Las Vegas-style high glamour. After all, tomorrow’s just another day of hen party fun.
Eating and Drinking:
After your hen do has picked up its obligatory share of the sweet Blackpool Rock confection, your group will want some more serious fare. There are numerous dining options in and around the beaches and piers of Blackpool and fish and chip joints are plenty along the Promenade. For award winning Cantonese-style cuisine, try Mandarin – it’s a favorite.
