General:
Okay, you are planning your
hen party and all of the sudden you are asked to consider
Amsterdam. Yes, I know what immediately comes to mind. You are imagining fields of tulips surrounding windmills. Standing in the picture is a pretty blonde wearing clogs. Don’t feel alone, it is same for everyone. Do all of those things really exist? Yes, the tulip industry is alive and well. Windmills are being explored for alternative energy. I dare to say the dresses and clogs are most commonly seen in folk dance. The important thing is to realize
Amsterdam is so much more than all of those things. Your Amsterdam Hen Party will find the beauty of the area nothing short of amazing. The brilliant colors and blue skies create a lasting impression. The people of
Amsterdam welcome everyone, illustrating the tolerance and free thinking shown in their society.
A Little About Amsterdam:
The primary language is Dutch. English is widely spoken, and German might get you by to some degree. Your
hen party will quickly learn about Amsterdam’s love affair with beer. With a population nearing a million, it sets on the “Amstel” river, once considered to be a crucial port city. Your
hen party will find the Dutch winters somewhat predictable, but the remainder of the year is moderate. The currency is, of course the Euro. Prices are considered less than in many areas of Europe, although lodging can average higher.
Transportation:
If the Dutch were asked to name their National vehicle, they would no doubt answer the bicycle. It won’t take long for your hen do to realize bikes are used to go everywhere, nor will it take them long to realize bikers are not overly cautious when mixing with pedestrians. The members of you Amsterdam Hen Party will also see one of the best Public transportation system in Europe. There is a Tram network that is second to none, along with busses and trains. In addition, any hen party will love being able to take a ride down the canals in a Canal bus.
Daytime Amsterdam:
One of the greatest things for your hen party to do, during the day, is take a trip down some of Amsterdam’s canals. There are Canal busses and tours that will give you past and current information. If you and your girls enjoy doing things yourself, you can rent a peddle boat. Let’s face it, one of the things Amsterdam is known for is it’s attitude toward prostitution. You and your hen party will be able to take a tour of the infamous “Red Light District”, as well as some of the historic sites within the city. If your friends love physical activities, there are indoor snowboarding and kart racing facilities.
Amsterdam at Night:
After a full day of shopping and checking out the area, your hen party will be ready for a girl’s night out. The “Central Station” area of town is where you need to head. There, your hen party will find every type of club and bar imaginable. It would serve your hen do well to try a variety of places. These are places that serve great food with your beer to places that are more “Indie”. Your hen party will soon find out that Amsterdam is very intense when it comes to beer. The local favorites are “Amstel” and “Heineken”, which will become very apparent. Local breweries are everywhere, all offering tours with free samples. Walking from night spot to nightspot is not a big deal in Amsterdam. However, if you don’t feel particularly brave, a cab is just a phone call away.
