Southampton hen nights

With Brighton and Bournemouth being the prominent south coast hen weekend destinations, Southampton tends to get overlooked. This seems a bit strange, as in our view Southampton has a huge amount to offer over its neighbouring opposition. By being the hub of UK yachting and sailing, there was always going to be a demand to cater for the party set and this is clearly reflected in the newly developed quayside which boasts a huge range of quality restaurants, clubs and bars. Along with the nightlife there is also a huge range of quality activities, with the water sports second to none and excellent outdoor activities in and around the New Forest.

not bad.....on the Saturday we tried to find a sports bar or somewhere showing the cricket.....can you believe it we could not find one in the town! there are several tired pubs.....and its a bit run down ....but along the west quay its better and maybe its more of an out of town place...

I chose Southampton as I was looking for a young/student nightlife on the south coast but didn't want to go for the cliche hen locations like Brighton or Bournemouth. We stayed in 2 flats in the Ocean Village Marina which was lovely, however, all the best bars etc are near the university or Bedford Place, about 5-10 min drive away. I'd never been to Southampton before but we managed to find lots of bars & restaurants without too much trouble - there's also a casino but we didn't go in.

The area was nice. Everything we needed was nearby, there was a a selection or bars and restaurants, and the people were all really friendly.

Good - the hotel was a bit far out from what we had planned to do, but it was a lovely hotel to stay at. I think it would have been better to have more meals/buffet style lunch included on the Saturday.

Southampton was a good choice for 1 night stay. I wouldn't know what else to do if we have stayed longer.

For women who are looking to avoid the heavy hustle and bustle of the bigger cities and still have the luxuries, Southampton Hen Parties are not to be beaten.

Transportation:

Southampton is quite flat and easy to walk, but you might prefer a different mode of transport for your hen night. Both bikes and buses are available. Buses in Southampton run regularly and stop at most central spots.

Must-do and must-see:

The Titanic Memorial
The Bargate Medieval Gatehouse in the city centre
Attending the annual boat show if you're in town at the right time.
A great addition to any hen weekend can also include visiting the Maritime Museum or exploring the wild nature of New Forest. Weekend sailing courses are also available for an unforgettable hen weekend getaway. Art buffs will enjoy the City Art Gallery's collection of British modern art.

Shopping:
What is a good hen party without some shopping? For some good old fashioned consumerism, Bedford Place is the perfect stop. Full of boutique stores, it is a unique Southampton shopping experience. For high end shopping boutiques, the malls at West Quay and Bargate are the most amazing places to visit. For fresh food, fair trade items or fruit and veg check out the Friday market at Bargate.

Nightlife:
From pubs catering to sailors, to clubs catering to students, the nightlife in Southampton is perfect for hen weekends for any woman. The waterfront Platform Tavern is known for the live jazz music often playing there. The Portswood area has establishments geared towards younger crowds and students, while The Marina area is known for upscale pubs.

Food and Drink:
From affordable ethnic food, to expensive fancy cuisine, it is all available during a hen weekend in Southampton. Bedford Street is best known for its wide variety of ethnic restaurants including, Mexican, Moroccan and Indian food.

A hen party on Bedford Street will never go hungry! For pricier cuisine, you should take your hen party to Oxford Street to dine. Oxford Street is full of upscale quality restaurants to enjoy.

You can never go wrong by choosing to have your hen do in Southampton! The city that launched the Titanic and endured bombing attacks during World War II has been rebuilt into a great place to visit.
