Munchen as the Germans know it used to be the capital of Bavaria, and still has the qualities of a great city. The buildings, the parks and the atmosphere set it as a great place to be for a hen weekend especially on a summers day or a summers night.

More importantly for your Munich Hen Do, Munich has a great nightlife but it’s certainly a city where starting early isn’t frowned upon and yet the locals and tourists alike party late into the night with the beer flowing like water.

Food and Drink:
Oktoberfest brings people from around the world to Munich for probably the word’s biggest beer festival, its not just during the festival that people come here though to visit the beer halls and drink a steins, (1 litre) of Munich’s famous lagers that include Hofbrau, Paulner, LowenBrau and many others. Germany does some good white wines as well though these aren’t from this region. Jagermeister is made not far away and it is cheaper than you will find it back in the UK it goes down nicely as a shot but can be made into a variety of cocktails including the red bull based Jagerbomb to keep you hen party awake until the sun comes up.

Traditional German food is not very varied but is surprisingly good, there’s a huge choice of sausages and lots of pork as well, to go with them mash potato and sauerkraut is traditional though potatoes are served in a huge variety of ways. Of course there’s plenty of international food of all types as well.

What to do during the day:
Munich has some great shops so spend some time shopping for new outfits for your hen night. Walking tours are popular, if you still have the energy, and the architecture in a typical Bavarian style is fairytale like at times. Munich often sees snow in the winter making it even more picturesque and if you are lucky enough to be there for a Christmas market the atmosphere can be wonderful with plenty of Gluhwein (German mulled wine) likely to be drunk.

You could catch a play in the early evening or some opera but the beer halls start filling up early and many locals and tourists alike will spend the whole afternoon drinking.

What to do at night:
Whatever time you get out you have to visit at least one and ideally a few, maybe all, of Munich’s 20 Beer Halls and Gardens on your hen night in Munich, the Hofbrauhaus is the biggest and probably best. These are so much more than just a pub they are huge and so are the beers in 1 litre (nearly 2 pint) steins, beer comes in light but also stronger dark versions and is often bought to and paid for at your table. The tables themselves are often long with benches on each side so find a group of young Germans you like the look of and sit yourselves down,(its what’s expected) most will be very friendly and will get talking straight away.

Having opened early the beer halls don’t always open that late so get your Munich Hen Party along to one of the city’s great clubs maybe via a cocktail bar or two. Schwabing or the Gärtnerplatzviertel areas are your best bets and which club you choose depends on your taste in music. K41 is good for cocktails with good prices and 70s 80s and chart music. The Atomic Café is right near the Hofbrauhaus and great for Funk, Hip Hop and electronic music.
