Bristol West Country Games

Overview:
The West Country is stereotypically known for it's 'ooh arrr' breed of Farmers, drinking copious amounts of home-brewed Cider, 'moy traactor', and - well - who could forget the Wurzels? In celebration of this sub-culture of the western world, we present to you - the West Country Games! So much for challenging stereotypes - it's time to embrace them!
You and your group will head over to the heart of the countryside to engage in a series of 'It's a Knockout' style events, all with a west country twist!

Activities:

The Cider Run - All you have to do is place a cider glass on one of three trays set up along the runway in front of you. Sounds eay, but not when you're attached to a bungee cord. Well, we wouldn't want to give you an easy ride would we? The further away you get the glass, the more points you score!

'Vicky Pollard Handbags' - Think an epic battle of wits. Except you're wearing 'Bubbles DeVere' naked fat suits, and you're walloping your opponent with a handbag rather than your fists. Think jobcentre, arguing in the queue, but with two scantily clad really fat women. Ugh. In a true one-on-one battle, those with the most direct handbag thumps on their opponent will win!

Pitchfork Duel - Back in the day, Farmers used to settle disputes over trivial things such as who got the last pasty in the gentlemanly sport of pitchfork duelling. Whoever didn't die from fatal stab wounds got the pasty, and most likely a lengthy life sentence! However, luckily, society has become much more tolerant in the modern world - now, these pitchfork duels are more reminiscent of gladiators - two platforms, two 'contenderrrrrs', and two inflatable pitchforks. Mmm. Much less stabby.

Welly Wanging - A traditional village event, each contestant takes it in turns to lob a welly boot into a series of tyres 5, 10 and 15 metres away points are awarded for the most accurate shots!

Wurzel Knockout - The Wurzels have had it coming for years - now's your chance to dish out some watery justice - you'll be armed to the teeth with water bombs, and a huge catabult, which attaches to your feet, and you aim by lying down with your legs in the air. You'll get the most points for hitting the wurzel-themed mannequin furthest away from the launch zone!

Tractor Tyre Rolling - Starting from small to large, you'll have four tractor tyres on a start line - each team will be required to roll each tyre over the finish line, one by one - the team with the quickest time will get a fat wad of points addded to their total.

Wet Chicken - The hen will be sat on a chair below an ice-cold bucket of water and asked three impossibly difficult questions by their group - incorrect answers will result in the bucket being tipped slightly - three questions wrong, and it's an early bath for this hen!

Crazy Combines - Like a hamster ready for some exercise, you'll be zipped inside a giant inflatable ball, and be made to negotiate your way around a series of cones - the quicker you do it, the more points you'll be awarded.

West Country Pub Skittles - This is real bowling - you won't find any sissy curveballs down here! This is real west country skittles, with a wooden alley as your lanes, and a set of wooden skittles ready to be decimated by your eager hand! Most skittles knocked down gain the most points!

Mangold Danglin' - Much like old English bar skittles, this is the stag's chance for revenge! The group will be positioned in a semi-circle, standing on cider kegs, on one leg. Then, the stag will have the chance to swing a sack of 'taters from a huge pole to try and knock the unsuspecting group off their lofty cider-based perches!

Somethin' A Wee Bit Extra?
Once you've finished the Games, you can opt to add on a Cider & Cheese Tasting session at a local cider farm for an extra fee - You'll taste four different farm-brewed ciders, accompanied with Locally-produced cheese, while your able hosts give you a tour of the real working cider farm, whilst supping the good stuff!

The Cider & Cheese add-on will last 45 minutes to an hour.
The farm is 5 minutes from the games site, and you'll have to get yourselves there - we'll provide a map.
There's on-site parking facilities at the farm and toilets too.

Zider I Up, Landlord!

Activity Times:

Our west country games had to be cancelled due to field flooding. however the quick refund of meant we could put the money toward other things on the weekend!

We were all absolutly annihilated the following morning which made west country games very interesting, the event was well organised and it was good to see lots of other groups already getting involved. We dressed up our stag and set about doing things no hungover man should attempt! Such as bungy cord sprinting and dizzy bowling. The day was topped off with an excellent free lunch that included a pasty each, cider, cheese, crackers and crisps it was a really nice finish to the day!

Fantastic fun, everyone enjoyed themselves. The only problem was with the lunch but this was due to problems they had with a key and getting access to the oven I think. We had to wait quite a while for the pasties and when they arrived they weren't properly cooked. Everything else was great though and the staff were all helpful and friendly.
