Amsterdam’s reputation goes before it and rightly so, you’ll probably already know that although Holland has two capitals, Amsterdam and The Hague, Amsterdam is definitely its party capital ideal for a hen party.
A great hen party venue:
Amsterdam may also have a reputation for being Europe’s drug capital, don’t worry though its great for drinking as well with some great beers brewed here including Amstel and Heineken. Amsterdam is also known for vice and strip bars of course but they are very keen on equality here so you will find plenty of male strippers to choose from.
The fact that a lot of the drugs and vice is there for all to see in the open means this is actually a very safe city, for its size, and with cannabis being the drug of choice you will find stoners don’t exactly get rowdy most of the time.
What you will find is plenty of handsome blonde men for you hen party to choose from and a huge nightlife almost all squeezed in to an area within a mile or so of the central station. The bars and clubs (and coffee shops) are everywhere down Amsterdam’s little back streets and along the canals with plenty of outdoor seating to sit and watch the river traffic go by while putting back a few beers.
What to do in the day:
You could take your Amsterdam Hen Party out on the river as well of course, there are plenty of river and canal cruises, some simple tours others are party boats with a bar and a dance floor. Another way to get onto the water though is to hire some pedalos it will inevitably turn into a race and could even turn into a drinking game, the losers getting in the drinks once you get back on dry land perhaps rather than while still on the pedalos.
When actually using transport to get around the trams are great, cheap and regular take one out to the Heineken museum at their old brewery and get some beers included.
For something a bit naughty for your Amsterdam Hen Do get along to the Sex museum or the Erotic Museum and don’t worry they are used to giggling hen parties and for that matter probably stag parties as well. Head to the Van Goch museum for some slightly different culture. Shopping in Amsterdam is simply fantastic, plenty of clothes in plenty of styles grab a new outfit for the evening, the shops open late so you will have to drag yourselves away ready to start some serious crawling of the bars and clubs.
What to do at night:
The Liedseplein is a good place to start your night, try the Sugar Factory, you’ve probably never seen anything like it with live music but also live art and live poetry, dance to it anyway. Paradiso is packed with modern music and more of a mainstream club but still is known for its great atmosphere.
The great thing with the Dutch is their grasp of English, the young generation who you will hopefully be meeting on your night out in particular range from intermediate to fluent so there’s plenty of potential for flirting.
Where to stay:
Amsterdam’s nightlife and popularity aren’t dependent on the weather so there is no low season its great and busy all year round, if your bride to be needs a winter hen do it is a particularly good option therefore. Prices remain high all year round as well though, accommodation prices are especially high in the area around the station where the nightlife is you can go a bit further out of course and your Amsterdam Hen Party can stay somewhere a bit nicer for a bit less. Party through the night and head back when the trams start in the morning, otherwise take a taxi or hire a bike? Perhaps not though they are a great way to get around if you can keep in a straight line.
