Overview:
Do you spend days stuck behind a desk in an office longing to breathe in some fresh country air? Well, pull on your Wellingtons and Barbour jacket and get up close and personal with some farmyard animals. Under the tutelage of experienced shepherds, your group will have a baaaaaaarilliant time, learning how to shear sheep, herd ducks and watch sheep racing.
Format:
The format of the day varies depending on the size of the group and whether this is a stand alone event or apart of a larger multi activity day.
Activities:
Guests 'have a go' at the following activities:
Duck herding
If you've watched ‘One Man and His Dog' you'll know that using dogs to herd animals is tricky, but with a shepherd at your side you'll be taught how to direct a group of ducks around a course and into a pen using only dogs and basic commands.
Sheep shearing show
World class shearers can shear a whole sheep in around 38 seconds, but only the professionals make it look easy. Your instructor will hold the sheep for you and guide you through the shearing process. You'll need a steady hand and composure when the wool is flying. You'll shear in groups of 5 per sheep whilst the other half of your group take a sheep-related brain-teaser.
Sheep racing finale!
Just like horse racing, but far funnier and without the jockeys. You'll get to meet and greet the runners in the collecting ring prior to the race, learn about their latest form and attributes, and place bets on whoever ewe think the best woolly jumper will be.
Each team will earn points depending on how good they were at the other activities and these can be converted into fun money to use to bet on the racing sheep.
