Bratislava

Bratislava

Quick Overview:
Bratislava, the capital city of the small eastern European country of Slovakia, is becoming a white-hot tourist destination for those who love interesting, culturally-rich cities that haven't yet been overrun by hoardes of tourists. An historic and picturesque city that deftly blends old world charm with modern restaurants, bars and nightclubs, Bratislava can cater to corporate events big and small. Whether you're taking your team on a weekend of high adrenaline actvities and teambuilding events or simply want to treat them to cultural delights as a reward for a job well done we think that you'll simply love all that Bratislava has to offer.

In a Nutshell:
- Is Slovakia’s biggest city with a population of 450, 000.
- Bratislava sits on the river Danube and borders with Hungary and Austria.
- Approximately 60km (45 minutes by train) from Vienna.
- The city is the most densely populated in Central Europe.
- Is very cheap – e.g. beer costs around 50p and a hearty meal is about £5.

Atmosphere:
The Old Town is jam packed full of pubs, hip bars and vibrant nightclubs. The local eateries offer fresh, hearty meals for a song and local Slovak beers such as Zlaty Bazant or Kelt are well worth trying. There is also a pungent spirit called Borovicka but be warned: the locals have been drinking it all their lives so no matter what you do, proceed with caution. You have been warned!

Daytime Activities:
From bobsledding to bridge swinging, Bratislava offers a massive amount activities to keep your group entertained. The classic crowd pleasers are all on offer here: 4x4 driving, Karting, Paintball, Clay Pigeon Shooting and pretty much anything else you can think of. If you’re after something a little more unique, Bratislava comes up trumps too: experience the Aerotrim Astro Trainer which has been built to simulate the weightlessness of floating in space, attack the roads in a rugged armoured car, fire some powerful machine guns at a target range or get involved in a competitive game of ice hockey.

Weather:
Bratislava enjoys four distinct seasons of weather, with cold winters and hot summers. Winters are quite cold, with snow and ice. Summers are hot, sunny and sometimes humid. The temperatures are usually about 30 °C in the summer and drop to a toasty -3 degrees in winter.

Currency:
The official currency in Slovakia is the Slovak Crown ("koruna"). The exchange rate is presently about 60 SKK to 1 pound. You can easily change money in hotels, banks, foreign exchange offices and ATMs, but the exchange rates may vary. We recommend using banks, which generally offer the best deals.

Transport:
Bratislava's city centre is very compact and you can get everywhere on foot. You can also catch public transportation almost everywhere - schedules are easily understandable and written in minute intervals. All taxis have several rates which vary depending on if they are ordered by phone (the lowest) or hailed on the street or taxi stand. We strongly recommend that you insist using the meter and make sure that the correct rate is being charged.
