OVERVIEW:
Sheffield’s renowned for its massive student population – luckily for you, that means the nightlife is epic, but not too harsh on the wallet! Stag Party heaven! Sheffield is an eclectic mix of new and old, both in architecture and people. The city centre features lots of unusual buildings and sculptures, while the surrounding areas retain a more traditional feel. The bars are friendly places, the restaurants serve some bloody good grub, and the clubs play the best beats around!
GETTING AROUND:
Sheffield city centre is a large place, but there are plenty of buses that serve all areas of the town centre, all for an affordable fare. If you hate public transport with a passion (we don’t blame you) then there’s a large cab presence – the prices are always reasonable as long as you split the fare between you and your buddies – unless you’re the stag – in which case, let the guys get this one!
MUST SEE/DO:
• Find out what Sheffield is famous for – that’s right – pioneers of stainless steel! Sample their finest invention as you wolf down a meal in the city!
• Check out the Graves art gallery and proclaim loudly - ‘I could’ve done that, I could!’
• Take a much-needed break in Peace Gardens in the city centre!
HISTORY:
Sheffield is an industrial town at heart, so much of the architecture and scenery retains a very industrial-era feel, however the rejuvenation of these urban areas has made for some very cool, modern bars and clubs! In the last few years, there has been a massive increase in the numbers of students living in the city, which has attracted a lot of promoters to the nightlife scene, so there’s big names at the big clubs, and a big Sheffield stag weekend ahead of you!
NIGHTLIFE:
Sheffield prides itself on its nightlife – there’s none of that sleepy Yorkshire attitude here! You name the style of music, Sheffield has a club for it – for rock music into the early hours of the morning, then Corporation or The Leadmill have you covered, while if you’re up for a more mainstream pop/dance experience, then Embrace or the O2 Academy will be right up your street! There are a number of nice pubs in the city centre too, that serve good pub grub, and wine bars for a more contemporary Sheffield stag night experience.
FOOD/RESTAURANTS:
Sheffield has a wealth of good restaurants and pubs in which to catch a bite to eat, different types of cuisine, many of which are independently run businesses, meaning their reputation is only as good as the food they serve! There are many places that come highly recommended by locals and tourists alike – one of which is Silversmith’s in the city centre, which boasts a wide selection of food, much of which is created using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Same goes for Ego – good food, good people and a busy atmosphere makes for a great meal to keep you fuelled and ready for action on your stag weekend!
