Getting Around:
There are numerous bus services operating in Sheffield, but the city’s suburban and inter-city rail system is somewhat lacking in comparison to other English cities of comparable size. Although hilly, much of the city is compact and well-suited to bicycling for those inclined in that direction.

• Take in the gardens - The Sheffield Botanical Gardens are south west of the city centre and date to 1836. The site includes a large Victorian era glasshouse. The Peace Gardens, located across from the town hall, form part of the Heart of the City project. The site is dominated by water features including the Goodwin Fountain that is comprised of 89 individual jets of water.

• Take in a game - Sheffield is known for having some of the U.K.’s most impressive sports venues and taking in a game with the mates is always great fun. Choices include football, basketball, hockey and rugby.

The area where Sheffield now stands was first settled thousands of years ago. Beginning in the 1740s Sheffield began along its way to becoming an influential industrial town.
