Just off the Hampshire coast lies the Isle of Wight which covers about 150 square miles. The island is a popular day trip destination from mainland Hampshire (across the Solent strait from Lymington, Southampton or Portsmouth) but there is enough of interest on the island to make a longer stay on the Isle of Wight worthwhile, such as
Newport, the Isle of Wight's biggest town, which has a Roman Villa and, just 2 miles outside, Carisbrooke Castle
Cowes - a famous yachting centre which hosts an annual international yachting event in Cowes Week (end of July / beginning of August).
