Hamburg activity weekends

Germany’s best kept secret is very probably Hamburg. The second largest city isn’t as obvious a choice as Berlin or Munich, but it gives them a damn good run for their money. An economic and media hub, the port city has a vibrant multiculturalism thanks to bustling trade with the rest of the world. It’s also home to the Reepherbahn, one of the most notorious red light districts in Europe. Called ‘the sinful mile’ by the Germans, it’s pretty much exactly where you want to be for your stag night. Not only is it home to some of the best sex shows and shops outside Amsterdam, it’s also a major nightlife district with hot clubs and hot women with lowered inhibitions.

Hamburg is brilliant location. I'd definitely recommend it for a stag do. It has everything, relaxed, more 'civilised' nightlife, nice bars, nice restaurants etc for one night then all that comes with the Reeperbahn on the second night. A perfect combination.

Was a little disappointed with Hamburg, not as clean as was expecting, but really only saw the bars, some were great, others not so great

Overview:

The Facts:

-        Hamburg is both a city and a state of Germany.

-        Hamburg is the wealthiest city in Germany.

-        The Beatles famously played several shows in Hamburg in the early 60s, leading John Lennon to say “I might’ve been born in Liverpool, but I grew up in Hamburg.”

Drinking Scene:

The good news is you won’t die of thirst in Hamburg on your hen weekend. As is usual for Germany, there’s a big electronic music scene and anywhere there’s electronic music, a good drink is not far behind. Besides, you’re in Germany – drinking beer is a national pastime. You’ll find a diverse clubbing scene, with some of the most progressive parties in the red light Reeperbahn area. But you don’t have to worry about spending your stag night in a naff pub with old fraus force feeding you bratwurst, because we’ve already done the legwork and sussed out the top spots for you to party in and we can arrange no-wait, VIP access to them.

Food:

Funnily enough Hamburg is not known for its hamburgers, though the delicious concoction may have been named after the city. It is known for Bimen, Bohnen und Speck – a dish of green beans, pears and bacon. The ‘everything and the kitchen sink’ type Aalsuppe (literally ‘all soup’) is a mix of whatever’s on hand. Being a major port city, there’s plenty of seafood and a diverse selection of ethnic food from around the world. For the sweet tooth check out the Franzbrötchen – a flat croissant type pastry with a cinnamon, raisin and sugar filling. Keep in mind that restaurant food can be expensive even for Western Europe and don't forget to tip your waiter 5-10%.

Daytime Activities

Hamburg is a stag party haven.  Fire up your competitive streak and hit the paint ball field, the go-kart track or the shooting range for some friendly rivalry. Or maybe you want to get your drink on early in the day with an arranged pub crawl around Hamburg’s most notable establishments. And if you feel like adding a stripper into the mix we’ve got you covered with lovely ladies only too willing to entertain.

Weather:

Highs reach a mild 23 degrees celcius in the summer and winters are also mild, with lows reaching only just below freezing.

Currency:

Germany replaced the Deutsche Mark with the Euro in 2002, but interestingly Budesbank guaranteed the exchange of DM to Euros indefinitely – so if you have some cash lying around from an old trip, it might be worth digging it out.

Transport:

Typical of German efficiency, the public transport in Hamburg is excellent and efficient. Night bus services ensure you won’t be left stranded in town in the wee hours on your stag night. S-bahn and U-bahn (rail and subway) lines keep things ticking along quickly. The city centre is very bike friendly so if you feel like a leisurely cruise it’s easy to oblige.
