Glasgow activity weekends

Glasgow has cast off its headcase image and is now seriously cool. There's a bewildering array of superb bars and clubs divided between the west end and city centre districts and all the competition means that prices are cheap as chips. If you're looking for a cracking night out without splashing the moolah, Glasgow is definately the place. Outside Glasgow, we'd recommend heading up towards Perthshire during the day for the best white water rafting in the country. Throw in a bit of cliff jumping or canyoning and you're looking at one of the best weekends away we offer. Glasgow rules.

Glasgow is a brilliant location for a weekend away and I would highly recommend the Bier Halle and Oran Mor pub as 2 definite goto bars

OVERVIEW:
If you’re after a warm welcome, Glasgow doesn’t disappoint! This massive Scottish city boasts a beautiful mix of the old and the new, juxtaposing the old Victorian architecture with innovative modern architectural designs, with fantastic cultural locations to boot. Glasgow has been likened to 1960’s Detroit in terms of its music scene, producing talent such as Belle and Sebastian, Franz Ferdinand and Glasvegas, to name a few. The city is a hit with seasoned clubbers, who swear by the ever popular Optimo at Sub Club, or one of the Art Schools indie nights – perfect for a stag party, wouldn’t you agree?

GETTING AROUND:
Being a major city, Glasgow’s transport system is fantastic, as you’d imagine – there’s an intricate network of buses that serve all areas of the city until the small hours of the morning. If public transport isn’t your thing, there’s a fleet of taxis waiting to ferry you to and from your destination – perfect for that effortless stag weekend!  Should you want to travel out towards the Highlands, there’s an extensive rail network that’ll serve your needs – just don’t get lost!

MUST SEE/DO:
• Catch a Rangers home match at the Ibrox Stadium!
• Satisfy your internal art critic at the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA)!
• Spend your stag weekend hunting the Loch Ness monster on a day trip to the Highlands!(Good Luck!)

HISTORY:
Originally founded in the 6th Century by St Mungo, Glasgow has gone from strength to strength through the ages, populated by many ancient cathedrals, and much more recently, art galleries and student digs. It’s increasingly becoming one of the most popular tourist destinations in the UK, with a year-long calendar of events and festivals, from the Celtic Connections music festival to October’s Merchant City festival of comedy, jazz, art and numerous other events.

NIGHTLIFE:
Glasgow is world-renowned for its active music scene, spawning artists such as Franz Ferdinand, Glasvegas and Belle and Sebastian. There are a huge variety of live music bars and pubs, spurred on in part by the booming student population in the city – This has also led to a massive increase in the number of high-quality bars and nightclubs in the city centre that won’t destroy the wallet! Try the West End for a diverse selection of bars that come highly recommended by the local population! There are also the larger clubs for a decent stag night, such as the Sub Club, or Tiger Tiger, which are tried and tested recipes for success! Also be aware – Glasgow enforces a strict ban on drinking in the street, so be sure to sink that drink before you move on to your next spot!

FOOD/RESTAURANTS:
Glasgow offers a huge repertoire of dining choices for you and the lads – fuel a rip-roaring stag weekend with a succulent korma from one of the fine Indian restaurants in the city centre, go for some traditional grub from one of the local pubs, or sample some market delicacies, all using the finest local produce! For the finest local fare, try The Ubiquitous Chip on Ashton lane – it’s held in exceedingly high regard with the locals. Well worth a visit to satisfy your appetite!
