Brno activity weekends

Welcome to the bridesmaid of the Czech Republic. Where dumplings, beer gypsies and a whole lotta cabbage sit amongst historical churches and rowdy beer halls. Though Prague is still the nation's ‘Prom Queen', Brno - the republic's second largest city - is currently nipping at the heels of the capital and earning the reputation of being a simultaneously relaxed and mental, inexpensive and totally ‘upferit' town with a tonne to offer today's discerning stag party. We love Brno because it is a compact, young, vibrant university town full of friendly students and you can often get fed and watered for under a fiver. But we think the best bit is that Brno is yet to be assaulted by the Tsunami of tourists that marks so many cities, so unless you and your mates tape yourselves naked to the town hall or steal a gypsy's last tooth you should expect to receive a warm and hearty welcome from the local constituency.

Over all very good. We all had a great time.

Brno was a good fun location and served well for a stag do. If you are after something a little different and dont want to bump into other stag do's at evry turn of a corner then this is the place to go. Some of the best beer i've had and some great food in the evenings. Brno in my opinion isjust topped by Budapest as Budapest had a better nightlife.

Fantastic location for a stag group of our age group (30). The people are warm and friendly. The pubs are cheap and welcoming and the food is fantastic. The rumour that all Czech girls are attractive is pretty much spot on as well. Might not have the night life you're looking for if you're in your early twenties but we drank until 6 in the morning both nights and had a great time.

Good and fun city, which wasn't particularly busy. I don't know if it's because the students weren't there but it didn't seem like the second biggest city in the Czech republic....BRNo itself was very cheap, beautiful and the people very friendly.

Quick Overview:

Drinking:
Beer is brewed with national pride and during your stay it is your duty to sample the local brew, ‘Starobrno', which in many places comes in at just under a quid for a bottle. For those who are substantially more adventurous there's Slivovice, a spirit derived from plums that will topple even the most hardened drinkers. The only way to drink it is ice cold and in (alarmingly large) shot glasses. Taking shots is almost a national sport and the local student populace will be more than happy to demonstrate how to drink the Czech way. So get out there and enjoy, Na Zdravi! Cheers, Czech style.

Eating:
This truly is the land of the carb. Nothing complements a finely brewed carb loaded Pilsner than a carb loaded dumpling made of bread or potato. Soups usually start any Czech meal and the most popular varieties are potato, garlic, chicken or dill and this is usually followed by a serve of pork or beef and sauerkraut, an interesting cabbage concoction. A Czech side dish is basically a homage to the potato: boiled, roasted, mashed, fried or in a dumpling or a salad.

Out on the Town:
When night falls Brno really shines. Brno's got the largest student population in the country and as we all know where there's a student a beer hall won't be far away. Whether you're after a full on Euro-Disco experience or simply up for making like a local and sinking a few local ales Brno has every corner of nightlife sorted. Freedom Square sits in the heart of the city and is a good base for hitting the many discos, pubs and bars.

Daytime Activities:
Brno is jam packed with awesome things to do during the day with excellent karting tracks, brewery tours, quads and some of the best shooting anywhere in Eastern Europe.

Weather:
The Czech climate is temperate, with cool but sunny summers and cold, cloudy, humid winters. December - March the mercury sits slightly below zero while June through to August the sun is out and around 18 degrees.

Currency:
Czech Republic Koruny. £1 = 43 CZK

Time Zone:
GMT + 1 (GMT + 2 from end of March to end of October)

How much can my quid stretch?
If you're buying beer, food and coffee your quid will stretch to the max. Luckily for you and your group you've chosen Brno which doesn't suffer too much from the often rip off prices of Prague. Wine is by far the most expensive way to get drunk
